Dulce de Leche with Bacon Ice Cream

dulce de leche and bacon ice cream
Hello there! This post is all about my new obsession. ICE CREAM!!! I’ve always always loved ice cream, that special and unique texture it has; Cold and creamy, different flavors, different toppings, endless possibilities… but I have never actually made Ice Cream, and ever since I got my hands on an Ice Cream Maker I’ve been trying one recipe after the other. And the best thing of all is that I’ve been making flavors I’ve never tasted before and that I was always curious about. The thing  here is that there aren’t any good ice cream shops near where I live, so I had to make them my own, and I have enjoyed it so much.
I’ve been pinning Ice Cream Recipes like crazy on my Pinterest, and I want to make them all.
So for starters here’s my second Ice Cream Recipe, remember the first one was “Basil Ice Cream” now here is my second recipe “Dulce de Leche With Bacon Ice Cream” To many people these combination may sound weird, but not to me! I love experimenting with new combinations and flavors, and have always been a fan of “Sweet and Salty” food, and this ice cream brings that perfect balance between the creaminess and sweetness of the ice cream, with the saltness and crunch of the bacon. I hope you try this recipe, I bet you’re going to LOVE it!!!!!

Here’s the Recipe:
Dulce de Leche 13 ounce Can
Heavy cream, 1¾ cups
Whole milk, ¾ cup
Kosher salt, a pinch
Large egg yolks, 5

1. In a medium saucepan set over medium-high heat, bring to a simmer the: Heavy cream, Whole milk, Pinch of Kosher salt. Remove the saucepan from the heat.
2. Fill a large bowl half-full with Ice

3. In a heat-safe medium bowl, whisk the large egg yolks
While whisking, slowly drizzle in the warm cream mixture, being careful not to add it too quickly (this could cause the eggs to curdle). Return the egg-and-cream mixture to the saucepan and set over low heat. Using a wooden spoon, stir constantly until the custard begins to thicken, 10 to 12 minutes. Continue to stir until the custard is thick enough to coat the back of a spoon, about 3 minutes longer (when you drag your finger across the back of the spoon, it should leave a line that doesn’t fill in.

4. Place the bowl with the custard into the ice-water bath. Stir occasionally until the custard is cooled. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 2 hours (or overnight).
5. Pour the chilled custard into an ice cream maker and follow the manufacturer’s instructions to churn the custard into a soft-serve ice cream consistency. Once it reaches soft-serve consistency, add a few heaping spoonfuls (about 3/4 of the can) of the chilled dulce de leche. Churn until the dulce de leche is swirled into the ice cream base. Turn off the ice cream maker and transfer the ice cream to an airtight container and add about two spoons of dulce de leche and swirled. Cover and freeze until firm, 2 to 3 hours. Serve with bacon your favorite bacon on top.

I was really wondering how the set actually looked for the making of “The Great Gatsby” and this video made me wonder no more. I absolutely loved the book and thought it was a successful book-to-film adaptation. On the downside (for me) apart from the songs from Florence and the Machine, Sia, The XX and “Lana del Rey” (which btw is the only song I have ever heard of her! I know, I know, but the hype killed it for me, and I never gave myself the opportunity to listen to her music) Now where was I? Great Gatsby right, so as I was saying, apart from that songs and more specifically “Young and beautiful” which  to my taste (and this is just my opinion, which means  NOTHING) provides the listeners with the perfect dose of a beautiful emotional, soft, but dark melody. On the other  hand,  rap, will i am, and “Crazy in Love” ??? really? that song killed that scene for me. I know Jazz in the 1920’s represented all that was new and modern, but most importantly it represented a society obsessed with wealth and status and I admit that this type of music embodies that extravagance nowadays exactly, but it’s just not for me.
I just think the music is too modern to be complimentary of a “period piece”. But I want to make it clear that the film was very faithful to the book and it included almost every other detail.
Now for the people who criticize the opulence on the film, I have to say that for me it was a must, that was the point, opulence and extravagance, which symbolises the excessive materialistic attitudes of almost every character on the book, and the thing about Gatsby’s parties is that they were legendary and over the top.

What do you think of the video? Did you like the music from the movie?

The Wes Anderson Collection

I need this in my coffee table!
If you like Wes Anderson movies then your going to love this book. It includes behind the scenes, background into the life of the uber talented director, and more; its very detailed on the making of the following movies: Bottle Rocket, Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums, The Life Aquatic and Moonrise Kingdom. It doesn’t include Fantastic Mr.Fox! :( Don’t be sad, here’s this book “The Making of Fantastic Mr. Fox: A Film by Wes Anderson “ The book chronicles the making of the film adaptation from the classic Roald Dahl’s children’s novel.
I just seen pictures of it, but I really liked the editorial design on everything I’ve seen so far.
You can buy this book on Amazon too.
The Wes Anderson Collection book was released this past October 1st and it’s only $40 dls but you can buy it for 25 dls on Amazon! the release is today October 8.
My favorite movie has to be “Fantastic Mr Fox” It’s so funny and I love that its both a grown up movie and a child’s movie too.
Do you like Wes Anderson’s movies?

Pink Situation

I kind a have a collection of superga tennis shoes, it was not intentionally, really! I just ended up buying another pair and another pair because I used them so much, and now when I thought I had enough, I see this color, and makes me want to buy one last pair. Tennis shoes are so comfortable but still boyish and the fact that you can make them  lady like by getting them in bubblegum pink it’s not a bad idea at all, plus it’s the perfect touch of color to a monochromatic outfit.
This shoes take me back to my carefree days when I was a little girl where my biggest problem was going to school in a bad hair day. I wish I was six again …

The Perfect Date

It had been a long time since I went to a concert and I really enjoyed it. I love John Mayer, even with all his background douchiness reputation and all, I don’t care! The concert was great, I loved the background pictures in the scenario. He really is a very talented musician, I enjoyed hearing to every song because it reminded me of all the different moments in my life and all that has happen in between them. I listened to new songs I haven’t heard (to be honest I didn’t know any songs from he’s latest albums) but I really liked them. “Born and Raised” is very reminiscent of Bob Dyaln songs with the harmonica and all, and “The age of worry” has great lyrics and music, it was just perfect to hear with the crisp air of October, beneath the stars, sitting in the lawn, and drinking Blue Moon (My fav) . Which got me thinking, why don’t I do this more often? I mean they always say that to be happier we should do more of what makes us happy (duh!!! but as simple as it sounds, many times we don’t), so yes, in the near future I will be going to a lot more concerts to be a happier me, and as the title says, it’s the perfect date! Be it with your husband, boyfriend, best friend, sister, father, mother, it’s just perfect.

John Mayer Tonight

Hello Again! It’s Friday finally and my weekend it’s starting with John Mayer’s Concert Tonight!!!!
I’m very excited, I loved John Mayer’s since he’s first album, and lately I’ve been a little of track with the latest singles, but it doesn’t matter I’m going!
I want to say that I’m loving this boho new look . That said, we all have to admit it’s very Johnny Depp don’t you think? But I don’t think John (Mayer!) is trying to look like Johny (Depp) I think he’s just in another fase.
Just wondering…Is the world ready for two Johnnys? Or for that matter, two Johns? Two of both!
I’m so ready for tonight!

Basil Ice Cream

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

Hello! Today I want to share with you this new recipe that I’ve made and that I’m currently obsessed with basil ice cream.
Im obsessed with the smell of basil, its so fresh and unique, It takes any recipe or dish to a new level, the peppery and minty flavor combined with the creamy texture, it’s just perfect.
Here is the recipe, I hope you like it.  My family looooved it!!!!!! and I had a wonderful experience making this ice cream because I felt so good that there was no place around where they sell basil ice cream, and the fact that I could make it on my own was very satisfying.
Of course now I want to make all kinds of flavors. The fun part (for me) about making ice cream is that most combinations and flavors are one’s I’ve never tried before, and that makes it more interesting at the same time. I will let you know how they go.
Here’s the recipe:
Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset
2 1/2 cups whole milk
30 large basil leaves
3/4 cup fine sugar
5 egg yolks
1 1/4 cup (10 fl. oz.) heavy cream

Heat milk just to boil, turn off heat and add basil leaves. Let infuse for about 1 hour or you can place it in the fridge and let it infuse overnight.
Beat sugar and yolks together until pale and fluffy. Strain milk, pressing the basil to extract all the flavor. Stir into egg and sugar mixture. Make a makeshift bain-marie by putting your bowl on top of a saucepan of simmering water. Stir constantly until it thickens to the point where the mixture coats the back of a wooden spoon; then run your finger over the spoon and make sure that it leaves a path. Pour into another bowl and let cool in the refrigerator. Once cooled properly, stir in cream. Add to your ice cream maker and freeze.
