Basil Ice Cream

Tags

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

Hello! Today I want to share with you this new recipe that I’ve made and that I’m currently obsessed with basil ice cream.
Im obsessed with the smell of basil, its so fresh and unique, It takes any recipe or dish to a new level, the peppery and minty flavor combined with the creamy texture, it’s just perfect.
Here is the recipe, I hope you like it.  My family looooved it!!!!!! and I had a wonderful experience making this ice cream because I felt so good that there was no place around where they sell basil ice cream, and the fact that I could make it on my own was very satisfying.
Of course now I want to make all kinds of flavors. The fun part (for me) about making ice cream is that most combinations and flavors are one’s I’ve never tried before, and that makes it more interesting at the same time. I will let you know how they go.
Here’s the recipe:
Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset
2 1/2 cups whole milk
30 large basil leaves
3/4 cup fine sugar
5 egg yolks
1 1/4 cup (10 fl. oz.) heavy cream

Heat milk just to boil, turn off heat and add basil leaves. Let infuse for about 1 hour or you can place it in the fridge and let it infuse overnight.
Beat sugar and yolks together until pale and fluffy. Strain milk, pressing the basil to extract all the flavor. Stir into egg and sugar mixture. Make a makeshift bain-marie by putting your bowl on top of a saucepan of simmering water. Stir constantly until it thickens to the point where the mixture coats the back of a wooden spoon; then run your finger over the spoon and make sure that it leaves a path. Pour into another bowl and let cool in the refrigerator. Once cooled properly, stir in cream. Add to your ice cream maker and freeze.

1- Rose Petal and Cardamom Ice Cream
2-Honey goat cheese Ice Cream
3-Fig Ice Cream
4-Date Ice Cream
5-Cardamom and Saffron Ice Cream
6-Cannoli Ice Cream
7-Fresh Ricotta Ice Cream
8- Honey Ricotta Ice Cream
9-Chocolate Lavender Ice Cream
10-White Chocolate Chai Ice Cream
11-Pumpkin Pie Ice Cream
12-Pistachio & Rose Water Ice Cream
13-Dark Chocolate Chip Orange Olive Oil Ice Cream
14-Roasted Strawberry and Mascarpone Ice Cream
15-Fig and Balsamic Ice Cream
16-Fresh Fig Ice Cream

What’s your favorite ice cream flavor?

Isabel Marant x H&M Womenswear Collection

As I’ve seen everyone is going crazy with these collection. I was very excited with the collection of Phillip Lim for Target and I actually went to a Target store on the day the collection was released and first of all, the collection was not released in ALL Targets, so that was a bummer, then I had to go to another store (where I first made sure they had the collection) only to arrive and see there was nothing left, on the first day of the release! I asked the people who work at Target if they had more on stock, sadly they didn’t and also didn’t know if they we’re getting more things on store, I didn’t even feel bad of not being able to purchase anything, since there were people sleeping outside target so they could run and get that purse that I also wanted but obviously not that bad.
On the other hand we have these Isabel Marant Collection for H&M where I’ll show you my favorite pieces, but that I doubt I’ll be getting my hands on because it’s gonna get craaazy!
I liked these collection, and think it has all the esence of the designer/brand but I read somewhere (I don’t remember where) that it wasn’t going to be very “low-cost” as many of us expect (another bummer!), I mean isn’t H&M supossed to be affordable?
On my last post I was writing about how people complain of the low cost clon versions of certain designer pieces, and Isabel Marant, as I read on a blog was angry that other brands copied her design on the wedges-sneakers, and said she never wanted to be famous and that she doesn’t want everyone to have Isabel Marant clothes because then it becomes common, but isn’t designing dor H&M a way of making it more accessible so that everyone can wear Isabel Marant? isn’t it contradicting? I don’t know, I really like her clothes and think she is very talented, but don’t really agree with her point of view…
Ok, well here are my favorite pieces

NYC 2013
(This is me last winter in NYC with layers and layers of clothes because it was freeeezing!)

This morning actually feels like Fall, it’s very windy and cold, I’m actually wearing my favorite knitted sweater and  socks, which I’m really enjoying. I’m listening to Michael Buble to set the mood even more and just to make my apartment warmer I might as well bake some cookies and light a pair of candles with a pumpkin/cinammon scent, or maybe amber, something strong and creamy… I’m still deciding between reading a book and watching Home Alone (Macaulay Culkin) while I snuggle under a blanket. I love home alone, it’s so funny and reminds me a lot of my childhood. I used to watch it every night before I went to sleep when I was little.
Fall is here and I’m excited because there’s just so much to enjoy during this season too, the fresh crisp air, baking pies and cookies, hot chocolate, cool weather, sweaters, boots, layers of clothes, cozy cardigans, movie nights with lots of blankets, pumpkin season, pumpkin ice cream, pumpkin everything! pan de muerto (Mexican bread), soup season, thanksgiving food, my son’s birthday, the list goes on and on..

Here’s a list of things I want  to bake this fall:

1- Brown Sugar Maple Cookies
2- Bisquick Peanut Butter Bacon Cookies

3- Gingerbread Scones with Maple Glaze
4- Pumpkin Donuts with Buttermilk Glaze
5- Sweet Potato Cupcakes
6- Pan de Muerto
7- Rosemary Butter Cookies
8- Cinnamon Dolce Ice Cream
9- Maple Buttermilk Pancake Cupcakes
10- Pumpkin Crumb Cake
11- Pecan Pie Bars
12- The Best Hot Chocolate
13- Skinny Apple Pie
14- Vanilla Chai Cookies
15- Lavender Shortbread Cookies

What are your favorite things about fall?

Low-cost drama

Well I think I add up to the list of woman currently obsessed with these Balenciaga boots! OMG if I had those 1275 dls (jeez!) to buy them I totally would! But I have to keep it real. The other day as I was looking at the shoe section in nordstrom I saw these Jeffrey Campbell boots that look pretty much like the Balenciaga’s but so much more affordable! Almost the tax on the Balenciaga boots , still they’re not super cheap (185 dls) but you can actually buy them.
I see a lot of bloggers/designers (etc) complaining about why Zara and other brands make budget-friendly pieces that are inspired by the leading designer brands and I just don’t get why, I mean, it’s cool if you can buy a 700 dollar shirt, but for those like (ME!) us I think its great, because you don’t limit yourself and actually can buy something that you loved that looks pretty much like what you saw on the runway, besides it is obvious who took the inspiration from who, and isn’t that a form o flattering?
Anyways… these boots have cool written all over them and look like a great staple for fall and winter, plus they look uber comfortable ( I don’t know if they’re heavy, but if you can walk on heels you can walk on these babies!) Hope to have these in my closet sooner rather than later.
Would you agree with me that these have come to replace the Isabel Marant wedge-sneakers furia from last year?
I think so… I also love the fact that they’re very Dr Martens-ish/tomboy/biker/modeloffduty type.
yay or nay? Don’t forget beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
I LOVE THEM!

granada rice
Hello lovely people! how was your weekend?  It goes by so fast right?  I had a beautiful time with my family and wanted to share with all of you what we had for breakfast today.

I made dinner on saturday and cooked brown rice and I had leftovers, I’m so used to having rice just for lunch or dinner that I never ever make it for breakfast, and as I looked into my fridge this morning, I saw the fresh coconut meat I bought on saturday, and while talking a walk on friday I found near my house a beautiful pomegranate tree, so I had pomegranate too. I took it from there and started taking things out of the fridge and well the rest is history. It was so good  and so healthy too!!!! we all had a big bowl for breakfast and I’m thinking of having exactly the same for dinner ( right after I finish writing this post ha!) I hope you enjoy this recipe which is a great alternative for oatmeal, you can use quinoa too. Let me know how it goes and if you have any recommendations.
granada tree
(This Pomegranate is form the tree I found near my house, so perfect!)

Recipe:
(Serves Two)
1 cup brown rice
1/2 TBS stevia
2 cups almond milk (sweetened or unsweetened whatever you like better)
1 pomegranate
1 coconut
2 TBS chia seeds
You can add 1/3 cup of your favorite granola to add some extra crunch and flavor, both versions are good, but I liked it better with the granola
photo
Directions:
Cook 1 cup of brown rice with water.
Serve 1/2 cup of the cooked brown rice and add 1 cup of almond milk with 1Tbs of Stevia.
Cut the coconut and serve on top with half of the pomegranate and one tablespoon of chia seeds.
Add the Granola (optional)
And it’s ready! Let me tell you that my 5-year-old son loved this so much he wanted more and more, I had to stop him at some point haha I’m not kidding! The creaminess of the rice with the almond milk and the coconut chunks mixed with the juicy and sweet pomegranate, and the contrast of these two colors (the coconut and the pomegranate) is beautiful and very appealing. And as I said before, for some extra texture add your favorite granola to the recipe and you’re good to go!!!
PS:You can make this recipe hot or cold.

Benefits:

The pomegranate is great for memory retention and is full of antioxidants. The coconut is rich in fiber and fiber can help you feel full, which is important if you are trying to eat less.

granada mercado hidalgo
(These picture was taken on a very famous market in Tijuana called “Mercado Hidalgo” where they have a great variety of fruit and vegetables as well as piñatas and mexican stuff. It’s beautiful!)

What do you usually have for breakfast?

I Forgot my Phone

Tags

, ,

I Stumble upon this video while doing my (almost) daily review on my favorite blogs, and saw this on Garance Dore.
I think It’s a shame that in trying to capture a moment on the phone, so many of us miss the special moment we are actually living.

I see myself in a lot of this but I’m trying to change though, I don’t want to miss the real moment just so I can watch it later, or share it with other people instead of enjoying that moment with the people Im living it with. I can help but wonder where this is all going… but have hope that the choice is ours. We can use this amazing technology to our advantage and not against, to draw us close to the people who is far away and not distance us from the people who we are fortunate to have in our every day life.

It’s about choices like everything in life, ask yourself “Can it wait?” “Is it really that important that I have to use the phone right that instant?” This video sure opened my eyes and I’m glad that there are people who are trying to make a statement on today’s society that the majority of people seem to ignore.

What do you think about the video? Do you agree or disagree? Do you relate with something in it?
Would love to read what you have to say!

Back to School

First of all I want to apologize for my lack of posts the last couple of weeks, it’s just that life has been a bit hectic lately, with the back to school errands and all , but I’m back for good, promise!

What have you been up to? I wanted to do a back to school list for kids but I think it’s too late!

But still I wanted to show you the backpack and bento lunchbox I chose for my son Luca.

Pretty Minimal right?

guggenheim backpackcp

I bought this backpack on my last trip to NYC, It’s from the Guggenheim Museum,  after seeing all the art work of course I had to visit the gift shop which has many items for children.  The backpack it’s a very practical item, and thought it would be a great souvenir for my son, besides that I think its a great way to introduce him to the art world. And it’s just a great alternative to all those backpacks covered in cartoons that are all part of a marketing plan.

The bento lunchbox , I know it’s not the most beautiful or coolest lunchbox out there, but its BPA and PVC free, spillproof (YEY!), and is fully isolated. I love how the Bento box actually stays flat once you slip it into the bottom of the bag and then there compartment up top is roomy for other items like a bottle of water and a snack or sandwich (The sandwich doesn’t fit in the bento box unless you take away one of the compartments) But the four compartments are helpful keeping foods divided and lets you get creative. It makes packing a healthy lunch much easier.

Hope this post was useful.

What are your favorite picks for this back to school season?

Hello !!! Today I want to talk to you about movies…
I Love Movies! I mean who doesn’t? You just seat there and let whatever movie you’re seeing take over you and enter a new world. Ok maybe I exagerated a little, but come on, it’s perfect for taking your mind of things and you just relax. You can watch them alone (I enjoy watching movies alone a lot!) with friends, or family (family movie night’s are great!) , and It’s still one of the best dates, you just seat there and don’t talk for two hours, eating popcorn (LOL). No, but really, you just go to a movie and enjoy each other’s company, and after the movie you can grab an ice cream and exchange points of view on the film.
I saw this trailer the other day and was very intrigued afterwards and really want to see this movie.
What could be the end of this story? I’m very curious, and I think Joaquin Phoenix is a great actor.

The release date is November 20th. What did you think of the trailer, do you want to see it?

What kind of movies do you like the most?
